What began as an idea of taking photographs of three primary schools in Uganda turned out to be much more than I anticipated.
In July 2014, I travelled to Uganda to take photographs on behalf of Victoria School of the Arts and Old Scona Academic, in support of two local NGOs; HEAL International and the Ainembabazi Children’s Project. Students of Victoria School and Old Scona Academic provide funding to support their education.
These photographs represent a glimpse into the lives of the children and the families of rural, western Uganda. Some images represent the conditions of living in a financially poor area of the world, while others display the joy, courage and resilience of a people I came to respect.
“Are we together” is the Ugandan way of asking, do you understand me?”
